Two Content Literacy strategies that I regularly use are marking the text and a double-entry diary. When marking text I have the students write on sticky notes or in the margins of what they are reading. They write questions, opinions, general comments, identify important names or dates, and confusing sections. They must "demonstrate" their thinking on the text. The other strategy, a double-entry, helps students relate the text to their own life. The left side of the T-chart is where students write down a quote from the text and on the right side they relate the text to themselves.
